Coolpedals cycling holidays, cycle hire, cycling trails in Suffolk and Essex, UK

About Our Climate

Coolpedals operates in North Essex and South Suffolk, which (along with Cambridgeshire) offers Britain's driest climate with less than 600mm of precipitation per year (check out the interactive UK maps on the Met Office website here). Our two local Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Dedham Vale and Suffolk Coast & Heaths, are the two driest out of all of Britain's 62 National Parks & AONBs.

Rainfall

Statistically, in our two AONBs, you'll get slightly wet (defined as >1mm daily rainfall) on 30% of days, and very wet (defined as >10mm daily rainfall) on 4% of days. These compare with average figures of 50% and 10% across all the National Parks & AONBs. Our local wet day figures vary surprisingly little across the seasons, although July/Aug are slightly drier than the annual average, and Nov/Dec/Jan are slightly wetter than the annual average.

Wind

The eastern half of our region is prone to coastal breezes. For the cyclist, these can be delightfully refreshing in summer, but bracing in winter, necessitating good windproof clothing and gloves.
