Coolpedals cycling holidays, cycle hire, cycling trails in Suffolk and Essex, UK

Local Attractions

Of course we hope your main reason to visit us will be to enjoy the fresh air, rural scenery and healthy cycling in Britain's driest climate! But while here, there's lots more to whet your appetite as you pedal around the countryside.

Wildlife

Because of our richness of rivers, estuaries and unspoilt coastline, there's possibly no finer region in the country for birdwatching. Local RSPB reserves include Minsmere, Snape, Boyton Marshes & Havergate Island. But with a sharp eye and binoculars to hand, there's lots of wildlife to be seen along all of our holiday tour routes.

History

Famous sites in the area include Colchester Castle, 7th Century royal burial mounds at Sutton Hoo, and 12th Century Orford Castle. The region thrived as a Wool Trading centre in the 15th Century, leaving a rich legacy of well preserved medieval villages including Lavenham, Clare & Cavendish.

Art & Music

The Suffolk/Essex border has a strong artistic heritage, and students of John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough, or Alfred Munnings will find much of interest here. A little further up the coast, Aldeburgh was home to Benjamin Britten and hosts an annual music festival each June.

Food & Drink

As well as lots of country pubs, you'll also come across excellent farm shops, including Hall Farm Shop and Jimmy's Farm. The region is highly regarded for its excellent seafood, such as Colchester Oysters and smoked fish from Pinney's of Orford. There are a number of local vineyards including Dedham Vale and Giffords Hall.
